The non profit organization plans to clone Florida’s oldest Bald Cypress tree Lady Liberty before the iconic species dies out. With a trunk 10 feet thick and height of nearly 90 feet, the surviving Lady Liberty is a skyscraper next to mature hickory, sweet gum and cabbage palm trees. But its immense size and an 8-foot-tall security fence may not ensure the tree’s continued longevity.
The 3500 year old Senator unfortunately burned down in 2012. The cloning of landmark trees that have a living history is a worthy goal indeed. It shows that humanity is thinking of immortality and that cloning is the passport that will lead it out of this mortal coil.
